Automobile tracking uses the same GPS tracking system as fleet tracking. A GPS receiver “listens” for signals from the GPS satellites. All GPS trackers use the same satellites.

Government

Tracking a fleet or assets for a government fleet is generally the same. At times there are differences due to budgets and purchasing requirements which reduce the technology a municipality can buy.

New GPS Satellites Launched

The United Launch Alliance (ULA) successfully launched a Boeing-built satellite into orbit as part of the U.S. Air Force’s Global Positioning System (GPS). This $131 million satellite was the final addition to the Air Force’s most recent 12-satellite GPS series, known as the Block IIF satellites. GPS satellites are operated by the Air Force and provide global positioning, navigation and timing services both for the military and civilian users. We can all access GPS from our phones because of this very constellation.
